Loft Insulation

A poorly insulated loft can lose up to 25% of heat through the roof. Not only can loft insulation save you money on heating bills and energy waste, loft insulation will also make sure that you are more comfortable by keeping you warm in the winter months and cool in the summer!

If you have no loft insulation at all and you install the recommended 270mm depth you could save up to £150 a year on heating bills and 800kg of CO2. If your loft requires topping up to the recommended 270mm depth, you could save up to £45 a year and 230kg or CO2. This information was made available by the energy saving trust and was based on a 3 bedroom semi detached home. Larger savings can be observed for larger homes.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Most homes built after the 1920's were constructed with two external layers with a small gap or cavity between them. Without this cavity filled with insulation a significant amount of your heating bills will be spent on heating the outside air. Filling the cavity in your walls is a great way to save energy and money on your bills. It is quick, clean and, most importantly, inexpensive or free to install.

Not all property are suitable for cavity wall insulation. Some have no cavities or may already have bene filled.

Renewable Energy Grants

Loft Insulation and Cavity Wall Insulation Grants

There are two types of cavity wall and loft insulation grants that are available to the general public. There are full, 100% grants and partial, up to 70%, grants.

The grants funding comes from major utility providers such as NPower, E.on, British Gas, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Energy and EDF. These utility providers have set targets to reduce their carbon emissions - Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT).

Anybody over the age of 70 could be entitled to a free loft insulation grant or a free cavity wall insulation grant that could cover 100% of the cost!

You could be eligible to free loft insulation or free cavity wall insulation if you are in receipt of certain benefits or allowances.

Those listed above are considered to be priority by the government and utility companies. You may need to prove receipt of the benefits and allowances to receive a free insulation grant.

If you do not qualify for the 100% grant, you may still be eligible for a partial grant. All home owners and private tenants are eligible and know as 'able to pay funding' and will have to pay a small contribution towards the insulation. the above applies for both loft insulation grants and cavity wall insulation grants.
