Biomass Stoves
Biomass Stoves are considered to be a carbon neutral renewable energy source. This is due to the fact that during its lifetime, the biomass fuel, will have absorbed the same amount of CO2 that is released when burnt.
Burning logs or wood pellets to heat a room is a great way of reducing your carbon emissions. Over the months and years before burning the fuel, the biomass material would have absorbed the same amount of CO2 of that which is released when burnt. The process is sustainable as long as wood used to burn for heating a room is replaced. Biomass stoves also put wasted wood to good use by disposing of wood that might otherwide end up in a landfill site!

Biomass Boilers
Biomass can also be used as a renewable energy source for hot water in the way of Biomass Boilers.
These boilers work in a similar way to that of the biomass stoves in that logs or pellets are burned and distribute the heat to a central heating and hot water system.

Renewable Energy Grants
Renewable energy grants of up to 30% are still available in some parts of Scotland. For the rest of the UK renewable energy grants will be replaced by renewable heat incentives in April 2011.
Renewable Energy Incentives
Designed to provide financial support to encourage individuals or businesses alike to switch to renewable energy sources. To meet the target of 15% renewable energy target by 2020, The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) need to develop a way of generating renewable energy in all sectors.
If you are to replace your current fossil fuel heating system with a renewable energy source you could get paid a set amount each year depending on the amount of heat generated - Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI)
You could earn an average of £350 per year - before you consider the amount that you will save in energy bills!
Renewable Heat Incentives are due to be available from April 2011 certain systems fitted today will qualify for RHIs - Find out more!
